The nine Regional Training Providers (RTPs) in the Solar Instructor Training Network offer resources to select educational institutions in their regions. Resources include train-the-trainer workshops and, in many cases, training equipment and tools for instructors. These efforts target mostly full-time and part-time community college instructors within their regions, and provide resources that support and guide these “Instuctor Trainees” to develop quality solar training programs.

As National Administrator, IREC has worked hard to forge strong relationships with the RTPs and continues to provide leadership, guidance and instructional resources for the advancement of the solar education and training industry.

Erwin Technical Center Tampa FL

Erwin Technical Center (Tampa, FL) served by the Southeast RTP, one of four public postsecondary career technical centers in the county, offers solar training to adults. L to R: Siggi Brocks, Kevin Lovig, Adrian Hernandez, Angel Medina, Ramon Colon.

The RTPs collaborate to identify career pathways, share labor market data, and resolve issues related to solar training and workforce development.  Using innovative approaches to training, including distance learning courses and mobile laboratory training modules, the RTPs sponsor instructor training in PV and/or solar heating and cooling technologies, and in some cases, assist in equipping the laboratories and facilities of local training providers.

The RTPs are doing their part to improve the solar education and training acumen of instructors across the country, and IREC is ensuring that these instructors have the necessary tools to develop effective solar programs.
