Distributed energy storage has enormous potential to considerably improve the function and resilience of the grid, while also enabling higher penetrations of distributed generation and other distributed energy resources (DER). States across the country are beginning to examine the role and function of distributed energy storage, and proactive regulatory guidance is needed to address the range of issues associated with the integration and interconnection of distributed energy storage on the grid.

IREC’s regulatory leadership and guidance on this emerging topic is enabling the growth of distributed energy storage markets, which is facilitating increased distributed generation (DG) penetrations in markets experiencing or anticipating growth challenges.

Through state level regulatory engagement on storage issues, IREC seeks to help inform the development of future regulatory proposals.
