How to Apply for IREC ISPQ Credential

*Note:  IREC awards credentials without regard to an applicant’s membership or non-membership in IREC or any organization, association, or other group.

Candidates for one of the six IREC ISPQ credentials must first go through a self assessment by completing an application that provides evidence they meet the requirements of the IREC ISPQ Standard 01022: 2011. Desk and onsite assessments are the next steps for training program and master trainer candidates. For continuing education accreditation and instructor certification, a desk assessment is usually sufficient. Finally, the Awards Committee makes the determination to grant a credential or not based on the assessor’s reports and recommendation. The process should take no longer than one (1) year from the date the application is received to the final determination by the Awards Committee. IREC ISPQ accreditation and certification is on a five-year cycle with annual reviews. The renewal process at the end of this five-year period requires a full application and assessment process.

To achieve accreditation or certification, the first step is to determine if the program and/or trainer has met the relevant requirements of the IREC ISPQ International Standard 01022: 2011.

Next, review the Candidate Handbook for the IREC ISPQ Program. This will give you all the information you need to know about eligibility, fees, annual maintenance of the award, timelines, and policies. It is a hefty document but it covers all aspects of the IREC ISPQ assessment process.

A specific application has been developed for each of the six recognition programs. Visit our Key Docs page to download each application.

The applications walk candidates through the process of demonstrating that they meet the requirements of the Standard.  As you get close to completing your application, the first step in submission is to email a one page ‘letter of intent’ indicating what credential you are seeking and when you plan to submit your full application packet. All application packets, along with the appropriate fee, can be mailed to: Interstate Renewable Energy Council, Inc., ISPQ Application Processing, 125 Wolf Road, Suite 410, Albany, NY 12205. Please make checks payable to the Interstate Renewable Energy Council, Inc.. Credit cards are not accepted.
