Industry Forms Coalition for Community Solar Access

CCSALogo_large Leading energy companies in the solar market this week announced the formation of the Coalition for Community Solar Access (CCSA), the first-ever national trade association for community solar.

According to the new CCSA, the coalition is a business-led trade organization that works to expand access to clean, local, affordable energy nationwide through community solar. Coalition for Community Solar Access

Community solar projects provide American homeowners, renters and businesses access to the benefits of solar energy generation unconstrained by the physical attributes of their home or business, such as roof space, shading, or whether or not they own or rent their residence or building.

IREC promotes community shared solar in a number of ways, by participating in the development of shared solar rules, and by publishing and sharing best practices. Our regulatory experts are extensively engaged in several states that are expanding or considering shared solar programs, working directly with utilities on program implementation and engaging in the regulatory process.

Structured the right way, shared solar programs can also help low-income customers access local, clean, renewable energy.

“As a long-standing national leader on shared renewables, IREC views the formation of the Coalition for Community Solar Access as an important step to continued and enhanced market maturity,” says IREC Regulatory Director Sara Baldwin Auck. “We look forward to working collaboratively with the coalition in pursuit of our shared goal to expand consumer access to renewable energy across the country.”
